Orlando, Fla. — Sep. 12, 2007 — When school started on Aug. 20 for Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) this year, its students, parents, and educators had a new reason to celebrate. Denver-based CIBER, Inc. has designed, built, and implemented an external web portal (www.ocps.net) for the school district so it can easily and cost-effectively share OCPS information with its constituents. The secure portal provides specific sites and information for students, parents, and community members. For OCPS employees, the portal offers secure access to departmental information, such as human resources, payroll, curriculum services, and finance and budget data.

For the six-month project, CIBER provided project management, requirements gathering, custom design and development, testing, training, and support services from its Orlando office. CIBER built the web portal using Microsoft SharePoint 2007, and tailored the application to meet OCPS?s specific operational and branding needs. The web portal is among the first nationwide to use SharePoint 2007 and exploit its powerful distributed content management and workflow capabilities.

?We were looking for an efficient way to provide important information to our constituents, without having to rely on programmers or specialized staff to create web pages, data dashboards, and scorecards,? said Nick Gledich, Chief Operating Officer, Orange County Public Schools. ?CIBER created for us an open, scalable, service-oriented architecture portal that can be easily updated and integrated with our other IT systems, so it will grow as our needs change.?

?The portal is a great solution for OCPS,? said Joe Mancuso, Regional Vice President, CIBER, Inc. ?It provides a user-friendly, cost-effective, and consistent information delivery system for the district. CIBER has assisted numerous government agencies and educational institutions with e-government and portal tools and processes, and we?re proud to have Orange County Public Schools endorse our capabilities.?

Orange County Public Schools is the 11th largest district in the nation and ranked the 4th largest in Florida with more than 177,000 students in over 170 schools.
