Every year, CEP names 10 public and private K-12 schools anddistricts as National Schools of Character (NSOC) for their outstanding work incharacter education. Winning schoolsand districts receive a $20,000 award, half of which is used for outreachto other schools and districts. Winners may differ in their methods and implementation butall have comprehensive, exemplary character education programs that exemplifyCEP’s ElevenPrinciples of Effective Character Education and serve as models for others. The criteria used to judgeNational Schools of Character award winners is CEP’s Character EducationQuality Standards. As part of the application process,applicants score themselves using this document.
