The National GovernorsAssociation Centerfor Best Practice (NGA Center) announced that five states — Arkansas, Delaware, Minnesota, Nebraska and Oklahoma — will eachreceive $10,000 grants to convene Governors’ Summits on Expanded LearningOpportunities (ELOs). ELOs, includingafter school, summer learning, and extended day programs, provide studentsopportunities to learn outside the traditional school day. The summits will provide each state’sgovernor with a springboard for advancing state ELO policy agendas, means toengage new leaders and partners in statewide efforts, and a forum for focusingattention on how ELOs can address critical state education and socialchallenges.
