Horizon Software International LLC, an Atlanta company that creates software for food service operations, has won a contract from the Los Angeles Unified School District, BizJournals reports. Horizon will provide food-service technology for LAUSD, which is the second-largest school district in the United States with more than 1,000 schools and educational centers and nearly 700,000 total students. Horizon’s systems involve payment at the point of service, online payment, as well as back-of-the-house functions such as inventory, procurement, menu planning, and production. Horizon said the initial rollout of the project will take about three years. The company said its point-of-sale system makes it possible for the school district "to eliminate meal tickets and the stigma associated with them. As a result, participation is expected to increase, because more students will choose to participate each day. Parents will also benefit by being able to access students accounts via the phone or internet."
