Teacher hopes evolution education program will promote interest in science

Generations of plants will evolve and adapt to their environments in just moments as Reed and Mock Elementary School fourth-graders watch next year, reports The Monitor. The school is one of three in the country that will participate in a three-year pilot program that has students use technology to learn about evolution. A nonprofit research organization from Massachusetts, the Concord Consortium, received a $2 million grant from the National Science Foundation to develop a computer-based program that builds models of plants and other organisms and shows how they evolve from generation to generation. The developers have been meeting with the three schools – the others are in Missouri and Massachusetts–to work out details with teachers and develop curricula that meet the states’ requirements…
