Massive "botnet" networks -- armies of infected computers formed by spreading a computer virus that orders compromised machines to phone home for further instructions, such as sending out spam or relaying passwords -- are sucking up personal data from millions of people at an alarming rate, and school and college networks are common targets of these attacks.
