Technology conference focuses on how to empower children


Do your students really know how to use Google? That was one of many questions presented to educators at this year’s 23rd annual Technology and Innovation in Education conference at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in South Dakota, reports the Rapid City Journal. More than 1,000 educators from around the state came to learn how to successfully integrate technology into the classroom from speakers like author Alan November, an internationally known ed-tech presenter. The conference opened April 19 and ends April 21. TIE director Julie Mathiesen said November’s talk is timely and relevant. South Dakota schools are loaded with laptops because of Gov. Mike Rounds’ Classroom Connections laptop initiative, even though obtaining replacements is challenging some schools because the original seller went bankrupt. It’s one of the issues Hamlin Middle School and High School principal Richard Schneider hoped to learn more about. Schneider listened April 20 as November used light humor to challenge educators to think of themselves as more than the adult in the room with all the answers.
