NASA announces high school science program

U.S. high school students are being invited to take part in a NASA program designed to attract them to science and technology fields, UPI reports. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration said it will accept applications for the Interdisciplinary National Science Program Incorporating Research Experience (INSPIRE) program through June 30. Final student selections will be announced in September. "The selectees will participate in an online learning community in which students and parents have the opportunity to interact with their peers and NASA engineers and scientists," the space agency said, noting the program "also provides appropriate grade-level educational activities, discussion boards, and chat rooms for participants and their families to gain exposure to the many career opportunities at NASA." Selected students will have the chance to compete for experiences during the summer of 2010 at NASA facilities and participating universities.
