New Multilingual Online Options Enable More Students to ReportSchool and Personal Safety Concerns
PublicSchoolWORKS’ anonymous online reporting provides mechanism for students to report bullying, pending school violence, and other safety concerns
Washington, DC – June 28, 2009 – PublicSchoolWORKS (PSW) has added Spanish and French to its Student Safety Reporting System and Student Bullying Reporting System to enable more students to feel comfortable reporting safety concerns related to themselves, other students or their schools. By providing students and parents with the ability to file reports in their native language, schools are addressing language barriers often the cause of underreporting of safety issues.

The Student Safety Reporting System and Student Bullying Reporting System are two of the management systems within the PublicSchoolWORKS’ StudentWatch SuiteSM.  Both systems include 24/7 online and telephone reporting, with the new multilingual feature accessible in the online reporting tools.

“Schools and districts across the country have an increasing number of students whose native language is not English and those students often don’t have access to the same safety resources provided to other students. The stress of trying to obtain assistance in regards to an upsetting event, such as bullying, fights or personal safety concerns, can be overwhelming for many limited English speakers. In order to keep them safe, schools are looking for tools that allow ELL students to communicate in their native languages and these new reporting options meet this objective,” said Tom Strasburger, Vice President of PublicSchoolWORKS.

The Student Safety Reporting System provides reporting tools for students and parents to report issues that might impact the safety of staff, students or property. Information can be submitted anonymously to include matters or tips about weapons and drugs to self-injury issues like suicide and cutting. This system is designed to meet virtually every state and federal mandate on safety issues other than bullying.

The Student Bullying Reporting System provides students and parents with a 24/7 system for anonymously reporting bullying concerns about themselves or other students. This system is designed to meet virtually every state’s bullying requirements.

Both systems automatically e-mail incident reports to administrators, track the resolutions of those incidents and generate district-wide and school-based trend reports to track which students are causing issues, what types of concerns are being reported and where safety issues are occurring. The systems automatically notify key district employees of safety concerns ensuring issues are dealt with before they escalate. With the systems multiple reporting options, administrators can make data-driven decisions to improve prevention programs.

Both systems are available separately or integrated into the StudentWatch Suite which also includes a Student Accident Management System which tracks and documents student accident reports and the Student Behavior Management System which allows school staff to report issues related to behavior referrals, as well as to monitor positive student behavior and record non-referral behavior issues.
