HAYWARD, CA – Whether you’re looking for a class in French, Java programming, cosmetology, photography, taekwondo or an esoteric interest like Islamic art, a new search engine called Courseopedia.com makes quick work of finding everything that’s offered in your local area. The site is launching with listings for California schools and will gradually expand to create a nationwide source of information on personal enrichment, vocational and career advancement courses – including those offered by private instructors.
Courseopedia is designed to eliminate tedious searches through multiple online college catalogs, alert adult learners to local colleges and private educational resources they might otherwise not know about, and provide a central location for browsing and discovering classes of interest.
Simply go to www.courseopedia.com, enter the kind of class you want or select from an extensive dropdown menu of course categories, and plug in your zip code to get a list of courses that match your needs. The site also offers a “Comments” feature that enables users to give their opinion on courses they have taken as well as programs and schools they have attended, providing feedback for others who may be exploring their options.
Courseopedia currently lists 30,000 courses from 17 California city and community colleges, including College of the Sequoias, American River College, Barstow Community College, Citrus College, College of Marin, College of the Canyons, , Cosumnes River College, Cuesta College, Folsom Lake College, Foothill College, Gavilan College, Imperial Valley College, Lake Tahoe Community College. Long Beach City College, Monterey Peninsula College, Sacramento City College and Taft College. Nearly 70 more California schools will be added by mid-summer.
“Trying to find continuing education classes is time-consuming and frustrating. The information is scattered in many different catalogs and websites,” said Abdullah Yahya, who founded Courseopedia with partners Jawad Ahmad and Haseeb Qawam after facing the problem himself. “We are building Courseopedia to be the Monster.com of college course listings: the definitive, easily searchable source of class information for lifelong learners.”
Courseopedia features include:
· Courses – Filter course searches in 10 master categories; narrow down the search further with subcategories, geographical preferences and advanced search options.
· Programs – Find descriptions, pricing information, locations, direct links and contact info for specific programs.
· Schools – Browse course and program offerings by school and easily compare school information such as estimated expenses, accreditation status and admissions requirements.
· Careers – Explore career information such as required training, job outlooks, earnings expectations and related careers for more than 300 occupations.
· Comments – Provide and retrieve personal evaluations of courses, programs and schools.
