Crestron DM-MD6X1 Solves Digital Dilemma in Analog Rooms

ROCKLEIGH, NJ, September 14, 2009 – Crestron announces the release of the DM-MD6X1 switcher, which brings the benefits of DigitalMedia (DM) to single-room applications. The DM-MD6X1 routes all analog, digital and HDMI audio/video from source to display, along with USB control plus DVI and DisplayPort multimode support. The DM-MD6X1 is ideal for modern digital presentation systems and the only solution to seamlessly integrate new digital HD sources into installed analog rooms. The DM-MD6X1 provides a remarkably versatile and cost-effective, single-cable solution for managing a complete range of digital and analog AV sources in a small conference room, classroom, or as part of a larger DM distribution system.

Crestron DigitalMedia is the only solution that integrates all analog and uncompressed HD signals, manages embedded data — including HDCP, EDID and CEC — and enables reliable switching and long distance distribution over a single cable or dual fiber strands. Exclusive, built-in QuickSwitch HD technology enables fast, uninterrupted HDMI switching by pre-authorizing HDCP keys and maintaining a constant handshake between sources and displays.

According to Vincent Bruno, Crestron Director of Marketing, “You don’t have to rip out existing analog systems to fully integrate HDMI, DisplayPort and other HD sources. You can continue to design and install MPS and MPC systems. DigitalMedia is the only solution in the industry that gives installers a simple, reliable upgrade path from analog to digital. With our new 6X1, the same hardware and software tools are now available for in-room presentation systems.”

HDMI, DVI and DisplayPort multimode are becoming standard interfaces on many new AV devices, such as laptops and videoconferencing systems. The DM-MD6X1 makes it easy to add connectivity for these digital HD sources within an existing analog room. Install a single-gang DM-TX1-1G transmitter on the wall, or a DM-TX-100 inside a lectern or under a table, to provide convenient connectivity for any source from anywhere in the room. Additionally, the DM-MD6X1 can extract analog audio from an HDMI signal, eliminating the need for a surround sound processor to manage audio from HDMI sources.

The DM-MD6X1 is designed to be placed in a credenza, or mounted in an equipment rack or lectern. More than just hardware, DM includes powerful diagnostic and installation software tools for quick, reliable system installation. DM Tools software graphically displays all the critical data for every signal flowing throughout the system for troubleshooting. It runs Data Rate checks, HDCP checks to indicate authorization key limitations for every source, and EDID resolution management to display the best signal quality. Quickly set up the DM-MD6X1 from the front panel, and use DM Tools to commission the system for optimal performance.
