As the National School Boards Association’s (NSBA) Technology and Learning Conference (T+L) approaches, educators and technology leaders across the country are preparing for speakers and sessions focusing on innovation, STEM, and global collaboration.
In particular, the 2009 conference will focus on tools for student engagement, technology and the law, professional development, leadership for innovation, the next steps in a 1:1 implementation, preparing tomorrow’s workforce with STEM, and mission-critical IT management.
NSBA’s Technology Leadership Network has named its annual list of “20 to Watch” emerging leaders in education technology. These individuals are recognized by the organization for championing technology initiatives that make a difference for students, teachers, school districts, and the greater education technology community.
A national search identified individuals who show the creativity and collaboration that embraces technology to enhance learning for students, inspire colleagues, transform operations, and engage communities.
These 20 technology leaders will be recognized at NSBA T+L. They will also be showcased in future NSBA education technology publications.
The U.S. Department of Education (ED) is developing a new National Education Technology Plan, and is searching for examples and best practices in technology use as it relates to learning, teaching, assessment, and productivity. T+L sessions focus on these same topics, and conference attendees are encouraged to visit http://www.edtechfuture.org to upload their first-hand experiences during the conference and let ED officials know how 1:1 learning and real-world projects can positively impact students.
Attendees will have the chance to hear from several renowned keynote speakers. Frans Johansson, author of The Medici Effect, explains that three driving forces–the movement of people, the convergence of scientific disciplines, and the leap in computational power–are increasing the number and types of intersections that people can access.
A panel of education and business innovators will take a look at the future of American education. The discussion will explore strategies for increasing the pace of educational innovation, ways that technology can contribute to its success, and insights on how to implement these innovations, or “take them to scale.” Dennis Cheek, former vice president of education with the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, will facilitate the panel.
Marco Antonio Torres, an educator, media artist, producer, and consultant, will touch on what educators need to be truly creative and inspiring. Classroom creativity is more than just Web 2.0 technologies, he says, and multimedia is a great way to reach out to and communicate with students.
