The Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA) kicks off its 30th Annual Convention and Exposition on Feb. 8 in Austin, Texas.

The conference which runs through Feb. 12, is the largest in Texas and will give attendees the chance to learn how to integrate technology into instruction, curriculum, and professional development.

This year’s theme is “Charting New Waters,” and with the Obama administration’s focus on education and the availability of stimulus funds for technology, educators are sure to learn about technology’s new potential.

Christopher Gardner, whose autobiography, The Pursuit of Happyness, inspired the 2006 movie starring Will Smith, will give the opening keynote speech. Gardner’s ability to conquer challenges and become a successful entrepreneur has made him an avid motivational and inspirational speaker.

Erik Wahl, founder of The Wahl Group, will deliver the closing keynote. The Wahl Group helps organizations identify and implement breakthrough thinking to achieve extraordinary results.

Attendees also will have the chance to hear from Susan Anderson, an instructional technology specialist; Janet Corder and Joan Gore, who will discuss professional development and technology; and Patsy Lanclos, a technology consultant.

More than 400 exhibitors and 300 concurrent sessions will be featured, including sessions on geocaching, integrating an iPod Touch into classroom instruction, Second Life, and Moodle.

School Video News Broadcast Center will feature a working news studio that is easily implemented in the K-12 environment. The broadcast center will product stories featuring topical convention events and interviews with attendees, exhibitors, and speakers. Content will be posted on SchoolTube and other media sharing sites, and schools are encouraged to use the broadcast center during the conference. They can eMail reservation requests to TCEA@buysvs.com.
