MCHENRY, Ill., Feb. 11, 2010 – Another 222 schools in the past three months have implemented Follett Software Company’s Destiny Textbook Manager, bringing the nine-month total of product adoptions to more than 1,000 schools – a testimony to K-12 districts seeking to improve textbook management processes to gain potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars in annual savings.
Follett Software’s product is now in more than 11,000 schools (and 900 districts) nationwide – further proof that schools nationally are recognizing the need to eliminate over-ordering and better track textbooks through an efficient textbook management system, particularly as the critical spring textbook ordering period approaches.
Here is a look at some of the districts that have recently adopted Destiny Textbook Manager:
· Chandler Unified School District #80, Chandler, Ariz. – Chandler Unified serves 38,000 students in 42 schools.
· Anoka-Hennepin School District #11, Coon Rapids, Minn. – 40,500 students in 42 schools.
· Santa Maria-Bonita School District, Santa Maria, Calif. – 13,142 students in 19 schools.
· Alameda Unified School District, Alameda, Calif. – 12,169 students in 23 schools.
· South Bay Union School District, Imperial Beach, Calif. – 8,704 students in 13 schools.
“Districts soon will start thinking about how many new textbooks to order for the fall, and if they don’t have accurate information on their existing textbook inventory, it’s very difficult for them to accurately document fall enrollment needs,” said David Zasada, program director, Follett Software Company. “One of our Destiny Textbook Manager districts recently discovered that they didn’t need to buy textbooks for their new schools and saved a half-million dollars – a familiar story we hear from our users.”
Fueled by its adoption of Destiny Textbook Manager, Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 in Illinois identified existing surplus inventory, which reduced textbook purchases for new schools, resulting in a first-year cost savings of $500,000.
“We just felt Destiny Textbook Manager would allow us to ensure that students will have access to the textbooks they need, when they need them, while at the same time saving our taxpayers a tremendous amount of money,” said Linda Casey, the district’s director of instructional technology. “If someone had told me a year ago that our district would save this much time and money in this short period, I would not have believed it.”
Zasada said among the key attributes of Destiny Textbook Manager are capabilities to help school districts to:
· Eliminate over-ordering and stockpiling of books.
· Effectively monitor and track textbook transfers across multiple locations.
· Ensure that students have the right textbooks when they need them.
· Improve the collection of fines for lost and damaged materials.
