Lawmakers back La. school board webcasts

Meetings of Louisiana’s top school board would have to be carried over the internet under a bill approved by a state Senate committee on April 8, reports the Advocate. The measure applies to the state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education. The 11-member panel sets policies for an estimated 657,000 public school students statewide. State Sen. Jack L. Donahue, R-Mandeville, is sponsor of the proposal, which is Senate Bill 298. The legislation passed the Senate Education Committee and next faces action in the full Senate. “The citizens of the state of Louisiana should be able to observe the action of the state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education,” Donahue said.
