Stores, Powers and Protects 42 Netbooks; Features Smart Power Management System to Charge Laptops and Preserve Batteries; Small Footprint; Complete Cable Management

CHICAGO — July 14, 2010 — Bretford Manufacturing, Inc., manufacturer of dependable furniture products that improve how people work and learn, today launched the NETBOOK42-CT, a new cart that vertically stores, charges and protects up to 42 Netbook computers. Primarily for education environments, the NETBOOK42 incorporates a sophisticated Power Management System or “brain” that decreases heat and electrical stress while proportionally distributing power to the netbooks to preserve battery life, and only requires a single power outlet for use. The new cart features a small 32” x 26” footprint to fit in tight spaces, and cable management to keep 42 netbook computers and cords neatly managed and stored in the back.

“Due to economic conditions, classroom sizes are now larger than ever before, with fewer instructors,” said Jim Fisher, product manager for Bretford Manufacturing, Inc. “Netbooks have become an affordable and effective way to keep technology in the classroom while helping to create an environment that is organized and primed for learning.” He added, “The NETBOOK42-CT cart helps maximize the use of technology in the classroom by quickly and properly charging up to 42 netbooks from a single wall outlet while extending battery life. At the same time, the cart’s cable management neatly stores the computers and cords for orderly distribution. Best of all, the NETBOOK42-CT is easy — easy for an IT coordinator to set up, easy for an instructor to maintain and easy for the students to use.”

Overcharging a laptop battery is the number-one way to reduce its usable life. The brain in the NETBOOK42-CT eliminates this issue by charging the computer batteries evenly and reducing power before they become overheated. With the brain, no manual switching or timer is required. It redistributes power every three minutes, not only to ensure consistent charging but also to keep the netbooks cool, thereby allowing them to charge faster. The brain also senses when the laptop batteries are almost charged, then automatically decreases power, which extends battery life and saves energy.

The NETBOOK42-CT requires only a single power cord to the wall outlet, which minimizes circuit tripping and reduces electricity consumption. At the same time, the auxiliary power outlets on the top shelf allow it to double as a presentation cart in the classroom, with room for a video projector or a printer since the brain can dedicate power to those accessories when they are needed. Additionally, the cart’s “swivel to fixed” position casters make it simpler to move in and out of a room and station in tight spaces such as a closet or in the corner of a room.

Located in the back of the cart, the cable management area provides storage and identification for each computer and cord with the ability to store more than 500 feet of cable without clutter. Each vertical slot has a permanent laser-cut ID number for coding the computers, the slots and the cable sets, making it easier to manage and identify their location. The cart also has divider brackets to keep the power connector cables in the proper position, while holes in the divider panel allow the cables to pass through and connect easily to the computers for charging.

The NETBOOK42-CT has an all-steel welded frame and is constructed from the most durable materials to protect the electronic equipment from damage. Further, it comes equipped with two reprogrammable combination padlocks — the most effective locking system available — and three-point security on the front and back doors to prevent against theft.
