Dayton, OH, April 26, 2011—SuperLumin Networks, a leading provider of high-speed media proxy and application acceleration solutions, today announced the installation of its SuperLumin Nemesis software at Epsom College.

As a boarding and day school for students 13-18 years old, Epsom College needed a network that would perform not only during critical school hours, but beyond the classroom from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. The school also needed a solution that would securely monitor and control students’ website access.

With demand for Internet access quickly mounting, Epsom’s already strained network felt the pressure of increasing demand for Internet usage. The school’s bandwidth consumption built up early in the day, and remained high late into the night. Epsom’s IT staff attempted to keep up by continuing to increase its Internet bandwidth, however; additional bandwidth was being used up as fast as it was added.

To provide students and staff the high-level Internet security and Web acceleration solution they needed to excel within their academic disciplines, Epsom College took the step of upgrading its existing proxy server to SuperLumin Nemesis.

In addition to reducing bandwidth consumed on the college’s current network infrastructure with SuperLumin Nemesis, Epsom chose to include content filtering services from ContentKeeper to protect students from accessing inappropriate websites. ContentKeeper provides a content filtering solution that installs directly on the SuperLumin Nemesis software appliance and is tightly integrated with SuperLumin’s identity-based access control policies. Within two days after the installation, the improvements were evident and student and staff productivity increased due to improved performance.

The SuperLumin Nemesis software appliance installed at Epsom College combines caching and acceleration capabilities with a powerful Web security solution—going well beyond basic proxy services. The combination of SuperLumin Nemesis and ContentKeeper provides exceptional value for users by combining Web acceleration, identity-based access controls and content filtering in a seamlessly integrated and affordable solution.

“After upgrading to SuperLumin Nemesis for the first time, our reports indicated that we rarely used over 20Mb/s of available bandwidth,” said Chris Davies, Director of IT at Epsom College. “We’re seeing the cache grow in size over time while bandwidth consumption continues to drop, giving us the capacity for future growth that will allow students to succeed in their academic work.”
