BALTIMORE (March 10, 2011) – Connections Learning (, a leading provider of digital learning solutions to the K–12 education community, has named two veteran e-learning executives to its rapidly-expanding leadership team. Kevin M. Sweeney has been named Vice President of Sales and Michael C. Wilmeth has been appointed Director of Marketing.

Leveraging Connections Academy’s resources, expertise, and proven results, Connections Learning offers K–12 educators a range of quality, affordable digital learning solutions customized to fit a school or district’s resources and students’ needs. The organization was launched in January in response to growing educator demand for targeted, customized solutions for their brick-and-mortar schools.

More than 300 schools, school districts, state departments of education and other educational institutions, serving tens of thousands of students throughout the United States and beyond, are already utilizing Connections Learning products and services. Sweeney and Wilmeth are charged with leading the organization’s sales and marketing functions to further expand its customer base and support the quality-focused Connections Learning brand.

“This is a really exciting time for the K–12 digital learning field in general, but especially for Connections Learning,” observed Mickey Revenaugh, Executive Vice President, Connections Learning and Co-Founder, Connections Academy. “We’re seeing tremendous educator demand for affordable, targeted digital learning solutions that deliver the same high quality and proven results that educators have come to expect from Connections Academy over the past decade. So we’re delighted to welcome Mike and Kevin to our organization. They’re talented, creative e-learning veterans who will help Connections Learning become the K–12 education community’s premier digital learning solutions provider.”

Connections Learning’s new Vice President of Sales, Kevin M. Sweeney, brings 15 years of experience in the educational publishing and digital learning fields to the organization. He comes to Connections Learning from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, where for five years he served as Vice President of Sales for SkillsTutor, an online curriculum that provides differentiated instruction and intervention for the classroom, extended use at home, and for adult education. In this capacity, Sweeney functioned as general manager for the $20 million business, where he delivered double-digit sales growth and managed a team of 75+ sales representatives and support staff.

In 2000 Sweeney joined Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, when the company acquired Achievement Technologies, Inc. (ATI), a provider of educational management systems for accountability, online test preparation, and workforce readiness skills. During his six-year tenure at ATI, Sweeney rose through the ranks of the sales organization, holding increasingly senior positions, culminating in his post as Vice President of Sales/Eastern Region. Sweeney began his career as a sales representative at SkillsBank Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Learning Company, where he reported to and was mentored by SkillsTutor’s creators and founders.

Joining Sweeney at Connections Learning is new Director of Marketing, Michael C. Wilmeth, a 20-year marketing veteran with extensive education industry knowledge and experience. For the past six years Wilmeth was Director of Marketing for Calvert School, the well-known and highly-regarded distance learning institution that serves charter schools, public school districts and homeschooling families. In this capacity, Wilmeth developed and implemented marketing and business development strategies for the organization, across all lines of business. He directed a team of marketing professionals, including brand managers, graphics designers, writers and online marketing specialists. In addition, Wilmeth developed and instituted public school administrator training programs and served as the company’s key family liaison, offering support and advice via social networking and other marketing communications vehicles.

Prior to his tenure at Calvert, Wilmeth spent five years at Legg Mason Wood Walker, where he served as Associate Vice President, Marketing Communications Manager in the Private Client Group Marketing Department. Here Wilmeth developed and implemented marketing initiatives to increase traffic to local branches for 1,400 financial advisors in 140 branches nationwide.
Wilmeth began his marketing career with stints at Callahan and Company Marketing Communications and in the advertising department at Woodward & Lothrop Department Stores.
