Horizon’s MealpayPlusTM solution offers K-12 programs a revolutionary way to provide convenience to parents, while reducing waste and increasing revenue within their schools

ATLANTA, GA (May 5, 2011) – Horizon Software International (www.horizonsoftware.com), a leader in K-12 online payment solutions, announces the release of its Open House Orientation module, which allows individual schools to automate their open house/orientation processes by placing them online. Schools can now post required reading documents such as media release forms, student handbooks, grading policies, etc. to the MealpayPlus website allowing parents to easily read, print and acknowledge that they have read and agree to the forms and/or policies.

Alongside the economic standing of today’s nation, schools are searching for innovative methods to increase profits and alleviate the time-consuming labor-intensive processes of entering registration information and handling the cash and checks received. Open House Orientation with MealpayPlus relieves many of these pressures by offering a system that provides less cash handling and shrinkage, increased visibility for various activities offered, a reduction in paper waste and a decrease in the amount of time spent processing registrations and payments.

A Gwinnett County School piloted the program and was prepared to bring in a team of paraprofessionals and clerks to handle the payments received and forms completed during orientation, yet they only needed two people. In addition to the labor savings, Ed Shaddix, Principal of North Gwinnett High School cited the reduced paper cost. “The paper savings are huge,” he remarked. With forms being completed and signed electronically, the school had to use very little paper for the entire process.

As parents adapt to busy lifestyles, they are also searching for new and quicker ways to complete their daily tasks. Horizon caters to these demands by providing an all-in-one robust program that delivers a one-stop-shop for all parent registration and payment needs. This also provides parents the opportunity to meet with their teachers and spend time in the classroom during orientation, rather than use their time filling out papers and writing checks. At Riverside Elementary of Gwinnett County Public Schools, it was reported that 93% of the parents completed their registration processes online and the school only took in $6.00 in cash, as opposed to $96,000 in prior years.

“Technology is advancing and the new generation of parents are constantly looking to do as much as they can via the web. It’s important for schools to keep up with the latest trends,” says Mariya Babaskina, Product Coordinator for MealpayPlus. “The Open House Orientation Module is an effective tool that gives parents the convenience they need, while providing schools incredible cost savings.”

Based on the success of the pilot and over 80,000 students in Gwinnett County Public Schools already on the program, GCPS will offer the option for all Gwinnett schools to use this online resource for this upcoming year.

MealpayPlus has over 900,000 registered users and is used in over 8,000 schools. After completing a free registration, parents may also simultaneously make deposits to their student’s cafeteria account, view student cafeteria purchases, make contributions and register/make payments for other various fees & activities such as AP exams, yearbooks and summer school.
