STATE COLLEGE Pa., May 5, 2011 — Schoolwires, Inc. has joined the America’s Promise Alliance (the Alliance) Business Leadership Council, a select group of private corporations and organizations offering dedicated time and resources to help ensure that all young people stay in school and graduate with the skills needed for success in college and the workforce. Specifically, Schoolwires will be part of the Business Leadership Council’s Education Innovators Group, bringing the company’s expertise and resources as a leader in leveraging technology to activate district and student success.

Schoolwires will work with the Alliance to expand and deploy its resources and programs to help transform schools as part of the Grad Nation Campaign. Launched in March 2010, Grad Nation is the Alliance’s ten-year campaign to mobilize all Americans to take action to reverse the dropout crisis and help achieve the national goal of increasing the high school graduation rate for all students to 90 percent by 2020.

“Grad Nation is about helping all Americans not only see the impact of low graduation rates on their lives and communities, but inspiring them to take action to solve this crisis and make sure our young people have all they need to stay on a path to future success,” said Marguerite Kondracke, president and CEO, America’s Promise Alliance. “Businesses have a unique and important role to play in this work. Not only are they best suited to help our young people make the connection between careers and the classroom, but they have a lot at stake if our future workforce is not prepared to meet the demands of a global economy. Our Business Leaders Council understands this and plays an invaluable role in helping us meet the goals of Grad Nation.”

“Schoolwires is in a unique position of not only understanding the needs of today’s workforce, but also being the provider of Centricity2, a transformational and unifying technology platform that is already addressing some of the most pressing challenges facing K-12 education today,” said Christiane Crawford, Chief Executive Officer, Schoolwires. “We believe our leadership and experience in applying technology in support of district and student success will help advance the Grad Nation’s initiative, and we are pleased to be a part of this important national imperative.”

Grad Nation is the second phase of the Alliance’s highly successful Dropout Prevention Campaign launched in April 2008. Between 2008 and 2010, the Alliance sponsored and helped co-convene 105 Dropout Prevention Summits in all 50 states bringing more than 40,000 policy, business, education, community and faith leaders together with nonprofits, parents and young people to discuss the dropout crisis in their communities and begin a dialogue on solutions around it.

Founded in 1997 with General Colin L. Powell, USA (Ret) as its founding chairman and Mrs. Alma Powell as its current chair, America’s Promise Alliance is the nation’s largest partnership network working to improve the lives of America’s young people by raising awareness, supporting communities, and engaging in nonpartisan advocacy. The Alliance is comprised of more than 350 partners representing nonprofit groups, corporations, charitable foundations, policymakers, faith-based organizations and individuals that believe children must have access to the fundamental education, life and health resources at home, school and in the community to succeed. The Alliance identifies these resources as the Five Promises: caring adults; safe places; a healthy start; an effective education and opportunities to help others.
