SADDLE BROOK, NJ, May 6, 2011—Brightpoint Literacy (NASDAQ: PEDH) is pleased to announce that the winner of the $500 Classroom Grant designed to engage boys in literacy learning is Ms. Bejanae Kareem, a second grade teacher at Parkside Elementary School in Atlanta, Georgia.

Educators were invited to submit proposals describing how they would use $500 of Brightpoint Literacy resources to engage their boys in literacy learning. They chose from Brightpoint Literacy’s full line of literacy collections, including a robust collection of leveled books and popular BOLDPRINT Kids, BOLDPRINT Graphic Novels, and Graphic Poetry titles.

Ms. Kareem’s proposal, chosen by online voting, is designed to motivate boys to read and write. “At Parkside, we have adopted a gender-based learning initiative, so this grant presented the perfect opportunity to select resources that appeal to boys,” Ms. Kareem commented. “I am excited about using the Brightpoint Literacy materials with my students—especially the boys in my class. I’m confident they will enjoy them.”

“Since the release of the Center of Education Policy study findings that boys lagged behind girls in reading achievement, we have focused our efforts to assist educators who are concerned with the literacy achievement of male students,” explained Ginny Tanaka, VP of Sales. “We received applications from educators across the country and are happy to have provided this opportunity to them. We plan to offer additional grants in the future.”
