New Position Focused on Providing Schools Seamless Integration of Next Generation Technology Solutions
Boston, MA, May 02, 2011 — Pearson, the world’s leading learning company, today announced the appointment of Heather McIntosh Cassano as Chief Experience Officer for Pearson North America.
The new position will focus on the increasing demand for integration and interoperability of a wide spectrum of Pearson’s technology products and services, and ensuring a coherent and seamless user experience for schools.
Pearson’s Chief Learning Officer Jim Behnke said, “A central strategic goal for Pearson is to power personalized learning, data-driven education, and integrated solutions to improve learning outcomes and school efficiency and productivity. The appointment of Heather Cassano as Chief Experience Officer strongly supports our strategy to deliver to school districts, administrators, teachers, parents and students what we call ‘One Pearson’ — a holistic and coordinated approach to K-12 education and services. Heather’s breadth of experience and impressive track record will help solidify excellence in user experience as a hallmark of Pearson’s digital programs.”
“I’m thrilled to join Pearson, a company that shares my commitment to excellence in educational experiences for children and adults,” Cassano said. “Working together, we can transform the way today’s students learn — providing enhanced collaboration, personalized learning, and innovative new curriculum programs, all accessible within an integrated, consistent, and delightful user experience. I’m honored to help facilitate this vital initiative.”
Behnke said that while Cassano’s primary focus over the next year will be in U.S. K-12, over time her role will likely expand into Pearson’s Higher Education and International businesses.
Cassano joins Pearson with over twenty years of experience in user experience and product design. Most recently, Cassano served as Yahoo!’s Senior Director of User Experience Design. Prior to that, she held senior positions at Google, Symantec Corporation, and Sun Microsystems. A consultant for many years, Cassano founded her own business in the Boston area and developed a patented methodology for cross-functional collaborative teams to rapidly prototype, usability test, and iterate on user experience concepts. Her expertise in the field led to university appointments at Harvard and UCLA.
Cassano received her B.A. in computer science from Boston College, and a Master of Fine Arts from Bennington College, Vermont.
