May 17, 2011–SDS Software, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Harris School Solutions, is pleased to announce the addition of the Via Purchasing module to their line of Via accounting products for Canadian school districts. It is currently in production at two beta sites.

“Harris is pleased to bring a web-based purchasing module to the SDS customers. It represents one of the milestone deliverables we promised the customers after our acquisition of SDS Software,” said Harris Vice President of Research and Development Scott Schollenberger.

Via Purchasing is a web-based purchasing module and consists of three components: purchase requisitions, purchase orders, and supplier inquiry. It works in conjunction with the Via Accounting and Via Administration modules, allowing users to create and submit purchase requisitions and purchase orders within the Via platform.

“The graphical, web-based technology eliminates the need for software installs on each workstation and uses SSL encryption to secure the communication between server and school(s),” said Harris Research and Development Manager, Jennifer Lange. “Via Purchasing embraces the same look and feel as the Via for Schools portal, which eases the learning curve for staff.”

Additional features include a shopping cart interface for order entries, catalogue directory complete with item images, and web tenders for supplier bid entry. Via Purchasing is accessible from either Internet Explorer (Windows) or Firefox (Mac OS).

The full line of Harris School Solutions software provides numerous options for student information, school nutrition, school business, employee time and attendance, adult-vocational education, data backup/recovery and transportation management. The SDS portfolio of products and services for Canadian school boards includes human resources, payroll, accounting, and purchasing management solutions. Information on SDS products is available at
