myON reader Named Leading Innovator in Personalized Learning
Literacy Environment Honored Twice in SIIA’s Innovation Incubator Program
Minneapolis (June 1, 2011) – The Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) announced that myON™ reader from Capstone Digital earned two recognitions in the 2011 Innovation Incubator Program. More than 380 ed tech industry executives voted to select myON reader as the “Most Likely to Succeed in the Education Market” and runner-up for the “Most Innovative Education Product or Service” award. myON reader was one of 11 finalists highlighted at the 2011 Ed Tech Industry Summit, the nation’s leading education technology conference sponsored by SIIA.
“The decision to focus our 2011 program on personalized learning was influenced by feedback received from more than 150 education leaders who met during our Symposium for Personalized Learning, after recognizing the need for a redesign of our K-12 education system,” said Karen Billings, vice president of the Education Division for SIIA. “Through the program, we’ve successfully identified developers of innovative, personalized learning solutions that aim to improve student-centered learning, helping to shift the education model toward a more individualized approach.”
The Innovation Incubator Program connects the developers of promising, new technologies with industry leaders, potential investors and established organizations seeking partnerships or prospects for acquisition. Thirty-five applicants were assessed on a range of criteria, including the degree to which the products represented a student-driven learning path, flexible anytime/everywhere learning, project-based/authentic learning, adaptive mastery/competency-based progression or pace, and other characteristics of a truly personalized learning solution.
“It’s exciting to recognized by the education industry for our groundbreaking efforts in personalized learning, said Todd Brekhus, president of Capstone Digital. “Thanks to the Capstone Digital team and the educators who helped shape the development of myON reader, as well as SIIA for acknowledging the shift in our education system to one built around meeting the personal needs of each student.”
Finalists presented their innovations to the ed tech industry on May 22-23 in the Ed Tech Industry Summit’s Business Profiles Presentations, Innovation Showcase and Welcome Reception, and live product demonstrations. During the conference, program participants received industry-wide recognition and peer-to-peer mentorship, and introductions to prospective investors, and companies seeking partnerships and acquisition candidates.
