The Geometer’s Sketchpad® Named an EdNET’s Best “Shining Stars” for 2011

The Geometer’s Sketchpad recognized among the top five product and service “game changers” in the education marketplace.

Emeryville, Calif. (June 2, 2011)The Geometer’s Sketchpad has been voted one of the top five “Shining Stars” in EdNET’s Best for 2011, a new recognition program developed by MDR, with the support of Educational Systemics, to recognize leaders and innovators in the education marketplace. “Shining Stars” is one of three categories in the program, and it recognizes products and services in the education marketplace that are potential “game changers,” as selected by the EdNET community at large, and the EdNET’s Best panelists.

Sketchpad, published by Key Curriculum Press, is Dynamic Geometry® software that gives students a tangible, visual way to learn mathematics while increasing their engagement, understanding and achievement. Students are able to create mathematical models in multiple ways to explore principles, test conjectures and illustrate myriad concepts. Sketchpad has been used successfully in elementary and middle school math, algebra, geometry, precalculus, calculus and higher education applications. In addition to supporting the Standards for Mathematical Practice, Sketchpad addresses concepts in the Common Core State Standards for Mathematical Content, guiding educators to successfully implement the standards as their students benefit from hands-on learning. It was selected from a large pool of competitive products and services to win a coveted spot on the EdNET’s Best list.

Sketchpad Resources
Supplemental materials and professional development are available online to support users of Sketchpad. Videos, tutorials, tip sheets and additional resources are available at Sketchpad’s Learning Center. Online courses are offered to provide practical instruction and advice for teaching elementary and middle school math, as well as Algebra and Geometry. In addition, webinars addressing how to teach specific mathematics topics with Sketchpad are offered monthly (except December) and available for download. “As a 2011 ‘Shining Star’ recipient, Sketchpad is believed to be one of the superstars of the education marketplace by the EdNET community and the EdNET’s Best panel,” said Dr. Nelson Heller, President of EdNET, MDR. “Being listed among the EdNET’s Best top five puts you on the short list of exemplary offerings in the education industry.”

“With a 20-year record of classroom success, The Geometer’s Sketchpad is the world’s leading software for teaching mathematics,” said Karen Coe, president and CEO of Key Curriculum Press. “Dynamic Geometry software like Sketchpad is specifically identified as a strategic tool in the Common Core State Standards.”

MDR, with support from Educational Systemics, created the EdNET’s Best program to recognize leaders and innovations in today’s education marketplace in three categories: “Shining Stars,” “Leaders to Watch,” and “Teachers Select.” The winners on the 2011 EdNET’s Best list will be officially honored at a recognition ceremony held at the 2011 EdNET Conference, September 25-27, in Denver.
