Visitors Welcome: Ooka Island, Developers of Upcoming Online Early Literacy Program, Launches New Website: Ookaisland.com

New Website Features Debut of Video Trailer for Much-Anticipated Ooka Island Adventure™ Early Literacy Game

Charlottetown, PEI, Canada – June 6, 2011 – Ooka Island, Inc., a company dedicated to teaching children the reading skills they need to become lifelong learners, has launched a new website in anticipation of its upcoming Ooka Island Adventure™ online early literacy game. Ookaisland.com includes fresh new content, enhanced features and, most notably, a sneak peak of the new game as the countdown begins to its September 2011 release. The game will accompany Ooka Island’s popular series of children’s books

Headlining the website’s new additions is a dazzling Ooka Island Adventure Video Trailer, a first look at a game poised to become the only comprehensive early literacy program offered exclusively through technology for children ages 3-7. The game’s innovative educational technique guides children through all of the steps needed to become fluent readers. Their advancement through the game moves at a pace dictated by their parents and teachers, who can monitor children’s progress – even remotely if they choose – to maximize their own teaching efforts.

The program’s methodology takes the Five Key Elements of Reading – phonemics, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension – and adds a vital sixth component: Entertainment. Children will learn the fundamentals of reading while embarking on a series of exciting adventures featuring characters they will grow to love.

The new website’s other new features include:

• An Ooka Island Passport serving as a helpful cyber guide to all things Ooka Island, including samples of the learning activities to be included in Ooka Island Adventure and details on Ooka Island’s children’s book series, which has 95 titles to date.

• A thorough Why Ooka? section detailing for parents and teachers the company’s teaching method. Ooka Island aligns its education strategies and activities to coincide with the Common Core Standards of Reading Education, which provide industry-wide guidelines of what students are expected to learn. As Ooka Island’s method aligns completely with these standards, parents and teachers can be assured that their children are learning what they need to know to become fluent readers and lifelong learners.

• A frequently updated Ooka Island Blog providing inside-the-island scoops on the latest Ooka Island news, event attendance, a Q&A section where Dr. MacPhee shares her more than 30 years of education experience and, of course, preview points of the upcoming Ooka Island Adventure game. The blog also serves as a topic starter for readers, who can comment on select posts and, should they choose, ask questions directly of their authors.

• A three-minute video telling the story behind Ooka’s New Adventure through the words of its co-founders, lifelong educator and expert Dr. Kay MacPhee and Ooka Island Adventure game developer James Barber, who also authored each of the Book Series’ 95 titles.

Ooka Island is also offering a Preorder Discount serving as extra incentive to surf the site. Those who visit the website’s “Parents” section and sign up for a reminder about the game’s September launch will receive 20% off their game subscription upon its release.
