Philadelphia, PA (June 28, 2011) – Promethean, a global education company, has signed a Memorandum of Collaboration with the Mexican Secretaria of Public Education (SEP) at ISTE 2011, the annual conference and exposition of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE).

Under the MoC, Promethean and the SEP will collaborate on activities and programs to deepen, strengthen and improve primary and secondary education in Mexico. Promethean and SEP will investigate how areas such as school leadership, teacher effectiveness and the development of the curriculum and assessment lead to higher student achievement.

At the heart of these challenges is the effective use of technology throughout the education system. Promethean and SEP will build on global experiences to tackle these issues and build a scalable solution that can be replicated throughout the whole system.

As part of this understanding, the two organizations will run a large-scale pilot program, where all the teachers and administrators will be fully trained in the use of ActivProgress, a web-based data assessment and analysis platform, which delivers real time teacher feedback.

Promethean will also integrate ActivProgress with the SEP portal so that educators in Mexico have access to real-time information and a reporting interface to track achievement in standards over time: in effect, providing formative assessment and enabling data-driven decision-making in the classroom.

The agreement also provides for the creation and implementation of a professional development program for the training of teachers in Mexico. This will be achieved by using Promethean’s classroom technology and the integration of standards-based, interactive content from the SEP with Promethean Planet, Mexico.

Both Promethean and the Mexican government are committed to transforming the life changes of pupils and the economic condition of the country by supporting educational success and outcomes through the use of innovative, collaborative technology.

Jean-Yves Charlier, Promethean’s Chief Executive Officer said: “
“This partnership is a significant step forward in developing programmes that will, ultimately, lead to the long term, sustainable improvement in education systems that are demanded by the economic imperatives required for national prosperity. We are delighted to be working in partnership with the Mexican Government on a project of this vision and magnitude.”
