Harris School Solutions is pleased to announce two new SME customers in Pennsylvania. Both Franklin Regional School District and Waynesboro Area School District selected SME as their student information system.

“The addition of two new SME customers in Pennsylvania represents a key milestone in our efforts to expand the reach of the product. SME provides districts in the state an SIS solution offering a mix of technology and functionality not previously available,” stated Harris General Manager Jerry Canada.

SME is a centralized, web-based student information system. It features census-based demographics, role-based security and many integrated modules, including health, discipline and attendance. Although it is designed for larger districts, SME is scalable to meet the needs of small and medium-sized districts as well. For Pennsylvania districts, SME includes all Pennsylvania Information Management System (PIMS) reports.

Compatibility, specifically SME’s ability to operate on a variety of web browsers, was a key element that appealed to the Waynesboro Area School District. Waynesboro has an enrollment of 4,197 students, six schools within its district and a mix of operating systems to support.

“We were primarily concerned with making sure the system we selected would meet our needs, and would work well with the mix of mostly Mac and some Windows computers we have in our district,” said Waynesboro Supervisor of Technology, Roger Lange. “Of course, we also needed the system to be cost effective.”

The Franklin Regional School District is comprised of five schools, with an enrollment of 3,728 students. Full-feature functionality was an important factor in the district’s decision to purchase SME.

Franklin’s Supervisor of Technology, Frank Muto, found SME to be a powerful and comprehensive tool. According to Muto, an important key feature was the fact that they would have “one point of data entry for student demographics and for the integrated modules.”

Both Lange and Muto are looking forward to the positive impacts they envision SME will have on their districts, including the increased communication between parents, students and teachers through the parent and student portals.

“We are very much looking forward to having the parent/student portal available for our students and their families,” said Lange. “We anticipate being fully reliant on both the core features and the additional features our previous system didn’t have.”

“We look forward to a long and mutually beneficial partnership with Waynesboro and Franklin Regional,” said Canada.
