Homeland Security Dept. offers lessons in internet safety

With students constantly online, whether in the computer lab, on smart phones, or at home, the topic of cyber security has never been more important. Yet, even though 70 percent of teachers polled by the National Cybersecurity Alliance were interested in incorporating information on topics such as cyber bullying and online safety into the classroom, most did not feel they had adequate information or training to do so.

As part of its “Stop. Think. Connect” campaign, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has pulled together a wealth of resources from the federal government and its partners to help teachers educate their students on the topic. “Stop. Think. Connect” is a national public awareness campaign aimed at increasing the understanding of cyber threats and empowering the American public to be safer and more secure online. The campaign’s main objective is to help citizens become more aware of cyber threats and learn to protect themselves from harm.
