Ohio performance assessment pilot program graded teacher performances

Even though Ohio Issue 2 (Senate Bill 5) failed in last week’s election, that does not mean merit-based pay is no longer a possibility for Ohio teachers, Yahoo! News reports. Approximately 30 percent of Ohio public schools participated in a pilot program to gauge annual student progress by individual classroom. The “value-added” statistics released today are offer a glimpse into how the program will function when it goes statewide in 2014. Tying teacher pay to overall classroom academic progress is expected to be a part of the new program.
