Ousted Philadelphia superintendent denied unemployment bid


The state has denied the unemployment claim filed by the ousted former head of Philadelphia’s public school system after she received a $900,000 contract buy-out, the Associated Press reports. Arlene Ackerman says she had her claim denied last month and she won’t appeal that decision. Ackerman had requested the state maximum of $573 a week, based on her former salary of about $350,000. She was fired in August after clashing with community members, the teachers’ union and elected officials…
