2012 eBOARD Awards of Excellence showcase best practice in school governance and leadership

June 15, 2012– Atlanta – eBOARDsolutions is proud to announce the winners for the 2012 eBOARD Awards of Excellence. The recognition program was designed to showcase best practices in school governance and leadership in the areas of strategic plan management, leadership evaluations, meetings administration, policy administration and internal and external communications. This year’s overall winner, Barrow County Schools, uses eBOARD extensively throughout the school system at both district and school levels. The district of around 13,000 students currently manages 74 meeting types and 20 types of strategic and school improvement plans with eBOARD. They also use eBOARD to manage their annual superintendent evaluation as well as their school board’s self-assessment. Recently re-accredited by SACS-CASI, they used eBOARD to prepare the documentation for the accreditation process.

The Barrow County School System utilizes eBOARD as a tool in its planning and evaluation process in order to be transparent in their governance and operations. Their eBOARD site includes the most recent information concerning their board of education meetings, local school governance team meetings, strategic plans, policies, evaluations, system news, and calendars. The structure ensures that the vision and purpose of the school system remains current and aligned with the system’s expectations in support of student learning and the effectiveness of the school system and its schools.

Dr. Wanda Creel, Superintendent of Barrow County Schools, comments:

“We are thrilled to be recognized again by eBOARDsolutions. eBOARD has been instrumental in our efforts in managing, streamlining and aligning the work of our district at both the system and school levels. It is our one stop communication tool.”

Forsyth County Schools won 1st place for Best Use of the eBOARD Meetings Module. This district of just over 37,000 students uses eBOARD to manage meetings at both school and district levels, saving printing costs and time from having to create and distribute meeting packets for the over 40 types of meetings managed through this web-based tool. In addition to school board meetings, Forsyth County Schools uses eBOARD to manage all of their local school council meetings. Agendas are posted in advance of the meetings and minutes are taking within eBOARD. Content includes supporting documents for the agendas, and minutes are completely searchable by the public, ensuring transparency to their stakeholders. Meeting agendas are accessed using standard web browsers on computers or through a free app for the iPad.

These two districts and other eBOARD Awards of Excellence winners were recognized today in Savannah, Georgia at the Georgia School Boards Association’s Summer Conference and Delegate Assembly whose speaker list included Stephen Peters, charismatic and inspiring trainer/speaker and author of the book Inspired to Learn: Why We Must Give Children Hope, Dr. Jason B., Huette, Associate Dean of Online Development and USG eCore and tenured Associate Professor of Instructional Technology and Design at the University of West Georgia (UWG), as well as James H.
