Featured at ISTE 2012, Visual Thinking App Enhanced to Support Third-Generation iPad; Compatibility With Desktop Software to Debut in Fall

SAN DIEGO – June 25, 2012 – iPads in schools are sure to be a hot topic here at ISTE 2012, where Inspiration® Software, Inc., introduced upgrades to its new app Inspiration Maps™, which now supports the new, third-generation iPad. In addition, the leader in visual thinking and learning announced a forthcoming upgrade to Inspiration® 9, its flagship software, making it compatible with Inspiration Maps.

Inspiration Maps allows all types of learners to capture their ideas, work smarter and build knowledge. Students take an active role in learning when they use Inspiration Maps. Rather than passively absorb information or play games, they build diagrams and outlines that stimulate creativity and aid comprehension. In addition, the proven visual learning methodologies in Inspiration Maps help develop the critical-thinking, cross-curricular literacy and writing skills that are delineated in the Common Core State Standards.

The newest version of Inspiration Maps now supports vector PDFs, increasing the quality of the photos and images, and the diagrams that they are part of, as well as the new Retina display on the next-generation iPad, which will make student and teacher work even more crisp and clear. With an upcoming upgrade to Inspiration 9, which will be available in fall 2012, teachers and students will be able to view and work on all of their desktop-developed Inspiration 9 projects on iPad, moving freely between the desktop and iPad. In fall 2012, Inspiration Maps will also be available in Spanish and French versions.

Many Inspiration 9 users were early adopters of Inspiration Maps, such as Karen Janowski, assistive technology specialist for Newton Public Schools in Reading, Mass. With more than 12 years behind her using Inspiration software, she embraces the new format. One of her favorite features is Rapid Fire, a brainstorming tool. “I love the way it works in the app – it just slides into place. They thought of everything – from the ability to change font size, to the seamless transition from graphics view to outline view, to the ability to export documents. They took the best of Inspiration and made a phenomenal app,” she said.

With more than 700 apps on her iPad, it is easily one of her favorites, she said. “Inspiration Maps has a beautiful interface, it’s user-friendly, and it takes full advantage of the touch capabilities of the iPad. Because of the way it’s designed, it’s engaging and motivating for students.”

“As more and more schools turn to iPads for students and teachers, it is critically important that we provide tools to transform them into learning tools – that is why we developed Inspiration Maps,” said Mona Westhaver, president and co-founder, Inspiration Software. “However, schools are going to continue to offer a host of different computer devices for learning, so we knew that it was also important to ensure that our premier visual learning software, Inspiration 9, and our new app, Inspiration Maps, are compatible so that students and teachers have the flexibility to work on their projects anytime, anywhere on either the iPad or the desktop.”
