Against accelerating the gifted child


A quarter of a million people have watched the premiere episode of the new YouTube show Prodigies, about 9-year-old Tanishq Abraham, the youngest student at American River College in Sacramento, reports the New York Times. The show makes much of Tanishq’s brilliance and academic precocity, but toward the end of the episode, his mother reveals her concerns about Tanishq’s educational experience. “He is a happy child,” she said, “but once in a while, he does say, ‘Yeah, I wish I had friends.’”
