My name is Chris Bennett on behalf of the Roarockit Skateboard Company.
I am reaching out to Education Journalists in an attempt to help spread awareness about our companies great program and curriculum. Our DIY skateboard building kits have been used in Classrooms, After-School Programs and Community Groups for almost 10 years now. The program can be integrated into many different subjects (Art & Design, Mathematics, Construction Technology, Business and Entrepreneurship and more), is suitable for students aged 10 and up, and can be tailored to different class sizes and time constraints.
Basically, students work in groups to create their own skateboards. We have three different styles of boards they can choose from, all made using the same process and without the use of any power tools. It is such an amazing thing to see a full classroom of kids, walking away with a high quality, handmade board of their very own… not to mention some of the coolest graphic and design jobs we’ve seen in the skateboard industry!
Any help or suggestions in getting this information to the appropriate teachers and/or community group leaders would be greatly appreciated. I welcome you to email or call me back to further discuss our programs or answer any questions you may have.
Feel free to check us out online. We have many tutorials and examples of the process on our various outlets, i.e. www.roarockit.com, Facebook, Youtube, etc.
Here is a link to a great article that goes a bit more in-depth into the teaching process – http://www.rockitalk.com/blog/2012/9/25/board-building-in-the-classroom.html
We also have an Electronic Press Kit available to download online here – http://www.rockitalk.com/blog/2012/10/30/electronic-press-kit.html
