Conceptua® Math and CORE Partner to Deliver Digital Math to School Districts
Companies combine strengths to deliver top-tier digital curriculum and teacher support
Petaluma, CA November 13, 2012 – Conceptua® Math, a leader in online visually-interactive math curriculum and Consortium On Reaching Excellence In Education (CORE), a leading implementation support services provider in mathematics, announced a partnership today to deliver professional development (PD) services to school districts. CORE will work with math coaches and teachers to support school district implementations of Conceptua Math.
The goal of this partnership is to capitalize on the strengths of the two organizations, where Conceptua Math provides the visual math curriculum and CORE provides ongoing PD support. Conceptua CEO, Arjan Khalsa, explains that this strategy is essential in order for the company to reach more districts: “Our partnership with CORE reflects a central part of our service strategy. With CORE’s math team as an extension of our company, we can provide implementation support to more school districts.”
Conceptua Math believes on-site, PD support will be critical for successful transition to the Common Core Standards. The Conceptua product helps teachers address the new standards, and CORE helps teachers to integrate best practice methods into their daily routine. Mr. Khalsa states, “STEM is on the rise, the Common Core assessments are two years away, and online math curriculum is becoming the first-choice for many districts. CORE is an ideal partner to help school districts make the transition to our curriculum.”
Conceptua works with top-tier PD providers. Lauri Susi, Director of Professional Development for Conceptua Math, explains how CORE meets the requirements. “We chose CORE because they offer comprehensive services. CORE has experience planning with district leadership, providing introductory professional development to teachers, co-teaching in classrooms, and providing ongoing coaching.”
CORE chose to work with Conceptua based upon their shared commitment to great teaching. Mark Simmons, CORE Chief Operating Officer, states, “Conceptua’s Keep the Teacher in the Equation™ strategy aligns well with our fundamental school improvement model: educator’s knowledge and student learning tools are critical components to educational success. We are training teachers to use visual and conceptual methods, lead mathematics discussions, and diagnose student misconceptions. The Conceptua Math curriculum gives teachers a ready-made platform to exercise best practices.” He sums it up this way: “By working with Conceptua Math, we can help teachers move into the new age of math education.”
The first large-scale example of this partnership is in the Sunnyside Unified School District serving 17,000 students in Tucson, AZ. Sunnyside has purchased curriculum licenses and targeted implementation services from Conceptua Math, while contracting for mathematics PD services from CORE.
CORE works collaboratively with schools, districts, state organizations, and education agencies around the country as a trusted advisor at all levels of preK–12 education to support math achievement and literacy growth for all students, as well as implementation of the Common Core State Standards. CORE’s expertise in mathematics, early reading, intervention, adolescent literacy, special education, assessment, writing, English learners, and Response to Intervention has led to impressive achievement gains in some of the nation’s most vulnerable school systems. With over 1,000 schools and 300 districts served, CORE has supported large urban, suburban, and rural schools. CORE’s implementation support services and products help customers build their own capacity for effective instruction by laying a foundation of research-based knowledge, supporting the use of proven tools, and developing leadership.
