Texas high schoolers see relief from high-stakes testing rule

For a second year, Texas high schools will not be required to count new end-of-course exams [1] as part of a student’s grade, Texas Education Commissioner Michael Williams announced Friday, the Huffington Post reports. The decision comes after Republican Gov. Rick Perry suggested the requirement’s deferral and backed a proposal to allow school districts to individually decide [2] whether to implement it. The new rule sets the results of tough new state exams to count for 15 percent of a student’s final grade.
