Alexandria, VA (12/11/2012)—ASCD, the global leader in providing programs, products, and services that empower educators to support the success of each learner, announces the release of a series of new PD In Focus® videos, as well as two PD Online® courses. These new resources focus on supporting educators in implementing problem-based learning, differentiated instruction, and the Common Core State Standards.
PD In Focus is an award winning, cost-effective, web-based professional development tool from ASCD that offers access to hundreds of hours of highly effective videos, related resources, activities, and insight from some of the most important voices in education today. ASCD’s PD Online courses use multimedia and digital content to meet the individualized professional development needs of almost any type or size of learning group, ranging from individual learners to statewide deployments and university programs.
Among the new resources is a PD In Focus channel devoted to problem-based learning for the 21st century classroom. The channel, led by Mary Ann Wolf, chief executive officer of Wolf Ed, shows how problem-based learning prepares students to not just meet the standards but go beyond to also acquire 21st century skills. Accompanying this channel is a new full-length video course of the same title, as well as an additional video titled, “Conversations: Integrating Differentiated Instruction and Understanding by Design with Carol Ann Tomlinson and Jay McTighe.”
In addition, two new episodes of ASCD Master Class have been added to the PD In Focus resources. The ASCD Master Class series, hosted by NPR’s Claudio Sanchez, features conversations with today’s top educators, such as Yvette Jackson, Veronica McDermott, and Mike Schmoker. The two new episodes focus on teacher evaluation with James Stronge and school culture with Baruti Kafele.
Finally, ASCD has released two new courses focused on the Common Core standards as part of its PD Online tool. The first course, “English Language Learners and the Common Core State Standards,” helps educators develop instructional and assessment strategies that support learners of English with reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. The second course, “Leadership: Implementing the Common Core State Standards,” supports school and district leaders in bringing the Common Core State Standards to life in all classrooms.
“ASCD is pleased to expand both our PD In Focus and PD Online offerings with new multimedia content from leading education experts,” said ASCD Executive Director and CEO Dr. Gene R. Carter. “We look forward to continuing to support the professional development of educators worldwide by helping them take the best ideas from the top minds in education and practically applying that information to support the success of each learner.”
