Lights, Camera, Stop-Motion Animation! – Book and App Turn Kids into Budding Filmmakers Just in Time for the Oscars
Klutz Book of Animation and iCreate to Educate’s myCreate app make it easy for children to create stop-motion animation videos
BOSTON, MA, February 21, 2013 – Lights, camera, action! Parents can bring out the budding filmmaker in their child just in time for the 85th annual Oscars awards show on Sunday, February 24, 2013 at 7 PM (EST), and provide great educational opportunities for using an iPad by getting them the book The Klutz Book of Animation and the myCreate app.
The Klutz Book of Animation contains all the instruction, secrets, tricks and techniques children need to make stop-motion animation videos. The book’s chapters such as, “Magic Shoes,” “How To Fly,” “Unmelting Ice Cream” and “Runaway Clay” will inspire children to create videos based on their interests. To see these chapters in action and for further Klutz inspiration, watch videos at klutz.com/ani.
The companion myCreate app is based on the Stop-Action Movie (SAM) Animation software that is used in schools nationwide to allow students to demonstrate their knowledge of educational concepts. Children can easily edit videos by slowing down or speeding up the delivery of frames, duplicating frames to lengthen scenes and adding music or audio recordings to their videos. Completed videos can be saved to personal albums and/or shared with family members and friends via Facebook, YouTube, Vimeo or HapYak, which lets you add personalized comments and drawings on the video.
“The popularity of iPads use by children is growing exponentially, and with that parents are looking for ways their children can use iPads for educational purposes. Our software is extremely easy to use and literally can have children bringing their playroom to life within minutes,” said Melissa Pickering, founder of iCreate to Educate and a former Imagineer for the Walt Disney Company. “It is fun to watch kids use their imaginations and so easily turn their vision into a quick movie. This is where we really tried to focus with the app — giving children a quick way to get started with hands-on creation.”
Originally prototyped by Tufts University researchers and commercialized in June 2010, iCreate to Educate’s stop-motion software allows children to capture still images from a webcam or camera on a mobile device and add sound to those images. They can then be played back in movie form like a digital flip book. This innovative software furthers the educational experience through simple technology that bridges hands-on exploration with digital creativity.
The Klutz Book of Animation costs $19.95 and can be purchased here, while the myCreate app costs $4.99 and can be purchased here. To learn more about iCreate to Educate, visit http://www.icreatetoeducate.com/.
