Storybooks with phonics twist feature a fresh approach to engage beginning readers

VERO BEACH, Fla. (March 12, 2013) – Rourke Educational Media announced today it is launching the Sound Adventure Series, featuring phonics storybooks with a fresh approach to help beginning readers succeed while providing the engagement missing in most traditional phonics readers.

Each book in the new series, which is targeted at PreK-2 students, focuses on a single phonics element and includes a Picture Glossary with activity directions, definitions and a pronunciation guide. The Sound Adventure Series increases vocabulary while building phonics skills and develops text comprehension through targeted strategies, with engaging story lines and colorful illustrations that bring the plot and characters to life. In addition, helpful reading tips and activities are designed to assist both teachers and parents.

“The Sound Adventure Series is different from traditional phonics readers. Students enjoy the characters, the good stories, and the look and feel of the books,” said Luana Mitten, editor-in-chief, Rourke Educational Media. “Children will experience the phonics and the lesson, but critically important is that they also will keep reading because of the story. And they’ll want to keep coming back for more.”

Mitten added that the young readers will enjoy the cast of campers and counselors from “Camp Adventure” as all the series’ characters embark on fun and wild adventures. The series features 36 leveled picture book readers, including “At the Aquarium,” “Wet and Wild Waterpark,” “Jungle Journey,” “Zoom to the Zoo,” and “The Museum Mystery.” Each book includes tips for parents and teachers.

The Sound Adventure Series is available in hardcover, paperback and ebook formats.
