Online access to world’s most researched and field-tested physical education program takes advantage of mobile devices in schools

San Diego, CA, March 18, 2013 — To continue to meet the evolving needs of physical education (PE) and classroom teachers nationwide, SPARK has launched digital versions of each of its comprehensive PE programs. The “Digital-Only” curricula allow educators to access all SPARK materials with a smart phone, tablet or laptop. SPARK is the first research-based K-12 PE curriculum to offer a fully digital curriculum for mobile users.

“With the addition of our digital-only curriculum set, we are allowing educators to access our evidence-based content in a whole new way,” said Paul Rosengard, the executive director of SPARK Programs. “SPARK strives to keep pace with these advances so that we can support educators of all levels in optimizing outcomes in the classroom, in the gym and on the field.”

With the new “Digital-Only” curriculum, educators simply log onto SPARKfamily.org with their mobile device to access the curriculum content. With the click of a mouse or a swipe of the finger, the complete e-manual, music, instructional videos, assessment tools, bilingual skill/task cards, standards alignment, written tests and more can be saved onto a computer and/or downloaded to an iPad/tablet, smartphone or other mobile device.

The digital transformation not only eliminates the need for bulky curriculum materials, but it gives PE teachers the opportunity to use supplemental resources to teach valuable skills. If a PE teacher is using an iPad or tablet in class, they can refer to relative apps, like movement analysis apps, or teach students how to use physical fitness assessment tools.

“We are in the throes of digital change and paper cannot match up,” said Rosengard. “Soon, it will be commonplace for teachers and students to receive an updated tablet at the beginning of the school year loaded with their textbooks and other resources.”
