SKO Learning announced today that it has renewed and expanded its partnership with Sunnyside Unified School District (SUSD) in Pima County, Arizona to help students improve their reading comprehension abilities. With its award winning and scientifically-based programs, SKO Learning will implement Skatekids™ and Ramps To Reading™ in all thirteen elementary schools in SUSD.
Sunnyside Unified School District is leading the way to incorporate technology into all aspects of the educational day. Recognized as a tech-saavy school district, SUSD provides easy access to computers throughout the school buildings with various technology initiatives to reduce the ratio of students to computers.
“We hold our vendor partners to very high standards, and SKO Learning has shown that their program was effective to help improve reading scores,” states Dr. Manuel L. Isquierdo, Superintendent of SUSD. Research showed a significant gain in reading comprehension scores for the children that used Skatekids™ during the 2012-2013 school-year, and expanding the program to all elementary students will help students build the executive functioning, phonics and reading comprehension skills necessary to succeed. “We know that providing engaging material for our students is crucial, and when that engagement results in better prepared learners, we all win,” adds Dr. Isquierdo.
“We are very excited to be partnering with Sunnyside, a district recognized by the Digital Promise Alliance League of Innovative Schools as one of the most tech savvy districts in the country,” states Alan Aldworth, Executive Chairman of SKO Learning. “The results produced by the program have been scientifically reviewed and published in professional publications which have cited the remarkable gains in literacy scores achieved with a variety of diverse student populations throughout entire school districts.”
