DURHAM, NC (January 13, 2014) – Measurement Incorporated announces that its acclaimed Web-based writing program, PEG Writing, has been enhanced to support “peer review,” a collaborative process through which students can give feedback to and receive criticism from their classmates in a supportive and constructive environment managed by the teacher. Developed in response to feedback from users and experts in the field of writing (such as the National Writing Project), the new peer review capability further distinguishes PEG Writing as the premier online writing program.

“Peer review is an essential strategy in modern writing instruction,” says Henry Scherich, President of MI. “But managing the dynamics of it in the classroom can be a challenge. We’ve implemented the process in such a way as to make it easy and more manageable for the teacher and non-threatening and even fun for the students.”

PEG Writing uses the “Two Stars and a Wish” method to encourage helpful but non-judgmental feedback. Reviewers are asked to identify two strengths (stars) of the essay as well as one area of suggested improvement (wish). Using the peer review capability, students are able to:

 Request a review from group members during any stage of the writing/revision process (first draft, second draft, etc.).
 Respond to review requests from their fellow students.
 Access their pending reviews from their course home page and begin a review in seconds.
 Monitor the status of their peer review requests and access completed reviews in their writing portfolio.

Teachers have complete control over the peer review process. They can, for example:

 Enable or disable peer review for each assignment.
 Specify peer review teams or create randomized groups.
 For any given assignment, specify whether authors and/or reviewers are disclosed or remain anonymous.
 Monitor and edit reviews submitted by students, helping them to improve their skills in analyzing the work of others.

For more information on peer review, visit the PEG Writing website or attend one of PEG Writing’s upcoming peer review virtual tours.
