Alexandria, VA (7/22/2014)—ASCD, a global community dedicated to excellence in learning, teaching, and leading, is pleased to announce recent awards won by its publishing, professional development, legal, and communications units. ASCD was honored with awards in recognition of several of its products, including books, conference publications, Educational Leadership® magazine, and the PD In Focus® online professional development tool. The association also received recognition for the overall work done by its legal team and for its work in social media.

ASCD Publications Win Four Awards from the Association of American Publishers

This spring, the Association of American Publishers (AAP) selected Never Underestimate Your Teachers: Instructional Leadership for Excellence in Every Classroom, by Robyn Jackson, for the REVERE (Recognizing Valuable Educational Resources) Award in the category of Educational Leadership, Management, and Administration.

In addition, ASCD’s flagship publication, Educational Leadership, took home three REVERE Awards:

Best One-Theme Issue: “Tackling Informational Text” (November 2013 issue)
Best Learned Article: “The American Dream: Slipping Away?,” by Susan Neuman (May 2013 issue)

ASCD Wins Six APEX Awards for Publication Excellence

The 26th annual APEX Awards for Publication Excellence were presented this spring to corporate and nonprofit publishers, editors, writers, and designers for excellence in print, web, electronic, and social media. ASCD won five 2014 APEX Awards:

The 2013 ASCD Annual Report, “The Promise of Leadership,” won a Grand Award for design.
The January 2014 issue of Education Update (volume 56, number 1) won for overall excellence in the Newsletters: Print category.
The November 2013 Education Update article (volume 55, number 11) “Tapping into the Power of Gratitude,” by managing editor Sarah McKibben, won in the Newsletters: Writing category.
The September 2013 issue of Educational Leadership, “Resilience and Learning,” won for overall excellence in the Magazines, Journals, and Tabloids—Print category.
The November 2013 issue of Educational Leadership, “Tackling Informational Text,” won an Award of Excellence in the Design and Illustration—Covers category.
The 2014 ASCD Annual Conference and Exhibit Show Program Book won an award in the Event and Meeting Campaigns, Programs, and Plans category.

Association Media & Publishing (AM&P) presents the EXCEL Awards to recognize excellence and leadership in nonprofit association media, publishing, and communications. ASCD won four 2014 EXCEL Awards:

Educational Leadership received the Bronze Award in the Journals: General Excellence category
ASCD’s 2012 Annual Report received the Bronze Award in the Annual Report: Digital/Online category
The ASCD 68th Annual Conference and Exhibit Show received the Bronze Award in the Onsite Convention Program: Print category
Conference Daily (2013) received the Silver Award in the Convention Daily: Print category

PD In Focus® Chosen as Best Online Professional Development Tool

The ComputED Gazette selected ASCD’s PD In Focus as the best online professional development tool in the 20th Annual Best Educational Software (BESSIE) Awards. PD In Focus is a collaborative, on-demand professional development system for professional learning communities, schools, districts, and states.

ASCD’s Legal Team Honored by World Trademark Review

World Trademark Review, a website and magazine that covers the practice of trademark law, presented ASCD’s legal team with the Best Nonprofit Organization Team of the Year Award for 2014. Lori Schulman, ASCD’s general counsel, accepted the award at the International Trademark Association Annual Meeting in Hong Kong.

ASCD’s Pinterest Account Named Best in PR Industry by PR News

PR News presented ASCD with a Social Media Icon Award for best use of a Pinterest account for marketing and public relations. ASCD’s communications team manages the Pinterest account, which shares useful ASCD resources, products, and articles and has close to 15,000 followers.
