Digital learning in Singapore: CoSN leads K-12 delegation

Visit builds on organization’s global dialogue, digital learning efforts

cosn-digitalThe Consortium for School Networking (CoSN) is leading a senior-level delegation to Singapore from January 9-17 for a strategic discussion on technology in schools.

Educators will meet with Singaporean dignitaries and educators to discover up-close the innovative educational uses and impact of information and communications technology (ICT) in the Southeast Asian country.

“Our exploration of Singapore’s pioneering education system will strengthen CoSN’s longstanding commitment to build bridges from successful endeavors across the globe back to America. There isn’t a better system from which we can learn,” said Keith Krueger, CEO of CoSN. “Over nine days, Singapore will share with us the practices, programs and policies that have transformed their learning models. We look forward to bringing our observations and lessons learned back to U.S. schools.”

During extensive meetings and school site visits, the delegation will focus on the following three competences of Singapore’s ICT implementation:

• Achievement – Understanding how Singapore’s students score at the top of both Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) tests.

• Investment – Hearing how the government remains dedicated to investing in ICT.

• Vision – Learning about Singapore’s vision as articulated in its three “Masterplans” for ICT in education, “teach less, learn more.”

The delegation will summarize its findings and experience in a report later this year.

For live updates, the U.S. education community can visit the delegation’s blog at cosninsingapore.wordpress.com, or follow #CoSNsingapore on Twitter.

This marks CoSN’s eighth delegation, following trips to Portugal (2013), London and Paris (2011), South America (2011), Scotland and the Netherlands (2009), Scandinavia (2007), Australia (2004), and Europe (2002).

CoSN also organizes an International Symposium at its Annual Conference. This year’s event, held March 16 in Atlanta, will cover “Leveraging Technology in Education to Empower Girls and Women.” For more, visit: cosnconference.org/international-symposium.
