As we enter the new year, check out these funding opportunities for teachers, students, and administrators — many revolving around strengthening relevant 21st century skills, such as collaboration and innovation.

InvenTeam Initiative
The Lemelson-MIT InvenTeam initiative offers an opportunity for high school students to cultivate their creativity and experience invention. InvenTeam students rely on inquiry and hands-on problem solving as they integrate lessons from science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to develop invention prototypes. Interactive, self-directed learning coupled with STEM curricula are essential for experiencing invention.
Funding amount: up to $10,000
Deadline: Feb. 19, 2016

NEA Foundation Learning and Leadership Grants
Our Learning & Leadership Grants support public school teachers, public education support professionals, and/or faculty and staff in public institutions of higher education for one of the following two purposes: Grants to individuals fund participation in high-quality professional development experiences, such as summer institutes, conferences, or action research; and grants to groups fund collegial study, including study groups, action research, lesson plan development, or mentoring experiences for faculty or staff.
Funding amount: $2-$5k
Deadline: Feb. 16, 2016

Toshiba Grants For Grades 6 – 12 or K-5
Wanted: Classroom Innovators! Toshiba America Foundation accepts applications from teachers who are passionate about making science and mathematics more engaging for their students. Many successful grantees have designed projects that tap into the natural curiosity of their students, enable students to frame their own scientific questions, and incorporate the expertise of community partners.
Funding amount: $5,000
Deadline: Rolling

Ezra Jack Keats Mini-Grants
The program is intended to support projects that foster creative expression, collaboration, and interaction with a diverse community. The funding program will award grants to educators to create special activities outside the standard curriculum and make time to encourage their students. Projects funded in the past include murals, pen pal groups, quilts, theater productions, newspapers and other publications, intergenerational activities, and programs that bring disparate communities together. Starting in 2016, mini-grants also will fund programs that support the Common Core Standards within the curriculum.

Deadline: March 31, 2016

Community Education Center Community Grants
Designed to fund a limited number of projects that provide education about immigrants and immigration. The Council seeks to fund activities that are innovative and support the Council’s mission of promoting the benefits of immigrants to our nation.
