Both malicious acts related to sexting and the cyberbullying of sexual assault victims are all-too-common occurrences among students. To help schools detect these issues, Impero Software, provider of network administration, classroom management and internet safety software, has partnered with SafeBAE (Safe Before Anyone Else), which raises awareness of sexual assault and dating violence among high school and middle school students. SafeBAE will enhance Impero’s library of sexting-related keywords and will help Impero create a new keyword library of terms related to the bullying of sexual assault victims. Impero’s software creates an alert if students use any of the keywords or phrases while using devices on the school network. Educators are then able to view the students’ comments or internet searches in context to determine the appropriate next steps. Read more.

Video-based coaching and professional learning using a Chromebook is now a reality with Edthena’s new Chromebook app launching this week. Teachers can now complete an entire video coaching cycle – from recording to upload to feedback – on a Chromebook device. Read more.

Epson announced new ultra short-throw presentation displays for K-12 classrooms – the Epson PowerLite® 675W, 680 and 685W. Epson announced the latest BrightLink® interactive ultra short-throw presentation displays for education, including the BrightLink 685Wi, 695Wi, 696Ui, and 697Ui. These enhanced displays enable individualized instruction with wireless content sharing and deliver crisp image quality with up to full HD resolution1 and a bright, readable interactive image up to 100-inches – 3x as big as a 60-inch flat panel. Combined with Epson’s advanced 3LCD light engine for bright, vivid colors, the new BrightLink interactive displays result in impactful presentations and productive collaboration. Read more.

To provide educators with a comprehensive language and reading intervention that gets better results in a shorter period of time, Scientific Learning Corp. announced that the Fast ForWord® online reading intervention will now include Reading Assistant™ patented speech recognition technology, plus hundreds of reading selections and new teacher-directed lessons. Sony is expanding its line of 3LCD portable projectors with seven new E-series models, 4300lm to 3100lm with a choice of XGA and WXGA resolutions for the education and corporate markets. The new projectors are ideal for B2B applications including mid-sized classrooms and meeting rooms, and where popular display solutions prove unsuitable due to budget constraints and/or where larger image size is needed. As technology evolves, U.S. schools are choosing a variety of low-cost computing platforms for student instruction including personal computers, Chromebook™ devices, tablets, and more. In response to educators’ needs, Vernier Software & Technology launched the Go Direct™ family of sensors to offer teachers and students maximum versatility to collect scientific data either wirelessly or via a USB connection. The 16 new low-cost sensors, which are designed primarily for chemistry, physical science, and middle school science, can be used in more than 190 teacher-tested experiments developed by Vernier and are supported by free graphing and analysis software, Graphical Analysis™ 4 app. Read more.

At Antelope Valley Adult School (AVAS) in northern Los Angeles County, students enroll for a variety of reasons, including court or family mandates; they dropped out of high school; they need diplomas to apply for jobs or financial aid at local community colleges; or their diplomas or credits from other countries are not recognized in the U.S. To provide students with a flexible yet rigorous educational program, AVAS partnered with Fuel Education™ (FuelEd™). Today’s workforce is in the midst of a drastic shift. A recent Pew Research Center survey revealed that there was a 68 percent increase in the number of workers in occupations requiring “average to above-average education, training and experience” over the past 25 years. Of the ways to achieve this level of qualification, 78 percent of the United States’ adults surveyed said industry-recognized certifications prepared them “somewhat well” to “very well” for the field. The unique offering will provide teachers and parents with deeper insights into student performance, helping every learner reach their full potential. The Chalk.com platform will complement Blackboard’s existing offerings designed to enhance learning and will integrate with Blackboard Web Community Manager (WCM), Blackboard’s robust, dependable and reliable community engagement platform. itslearning (itslearning.com), developer of the award-winning personalized learning management platform of the same name, today announced it will partner with the Griffin, Ga., Regional Educational Services Agency (RESA) to deliver courses to those professionals enrolled in the Georgia Teacher Academy for Preparation and Pedagogy (GATAPP). Louisiana’s Rapides Parish School District (RPSD) announced an expansion of their ongoing partnership with Discovery Education, the leading provider of digital content and professional development for K-12 classrooms. In this new stage of the collaboration, educators in more than 20 district schools will now be empowered to support RPSD’s transition to student-centered learning environments with Discovery Education’s digital social studies and science textbooks. Lightspeed Technologies, provider of classroom audio systems, announced that the large-scale classroom implementation with North East Independent School District (NEISD) in San Antonio, TX, is nearing completion of approximately 2,500 systems installed in classrooms throughout the district. IXL Learning, the K–12 learning program used by 1 in 9 U.S. students, announced the introduction of adaptive science and social studies content for grades 6–8. Each skill in the curriculum leads students through a series of concepts using multi-stage challenges, which they complete by answering interactive questions. This progression helps students build mastery of complex topics, while the challenges make the learning process engaging.
