Most schools grapple with budget restrictions and funding frustrations–and that’s where classroom grants, including STEM grants, can be just what the doctor ordered.

STEM learning has been proven to help students build skills they’ll need for success throughout their lives. Schools don’t always have the resources for in-depth STEM exploration, though, and this is where grants can help.
The STEM grants we’ve compiled here run the gamut from science and math grants to funding for computer science and engineering.
1. To further inspire the next generation of STEM leaders, the Siemens Foundation and Discovery Education have launched the 2020 Possibility Grant Sweepstakes. The 2020 Possibility Grant Sweepstakes offers Title 1 K-12 schools across the United States an opportunity to win a $10,000 STEM grant that can be used to purchase STEM supplies, technology or be used in any STEM-related lab.

2. The American Association of Community Colleges and the National Science Foundation is inviting community college students to participate in the Community College Innovation Challenge (CCIC). The CCIC is a prestigious competition where community college student teams use STEM to innovate solutions to real-world problems. STEM students of today must be prepared to compete in an increasingly competitive and global market, and the CCIC is one pathway to supporting this need and provides students at community colleges with the opportunity to have “a seat at the STEM innovation table.”

3. Amazon’s Future Engineer Teacher of the Year Awards honor and recognize seven all-star teachers and their schools working diligently to help students in underserved and underrepresented communities build life-changing skills to propel their futures in computer science. The more than 2,400 teachers participating in the Amazon Future Engineer Program at over 2,100 schools nationwide can be nominated or apply at AmazonFutureEngineer.com.

4. Since 2008, over 700 high school chemistry teachers received The ACS-Hach High School Chemistry Classroom Grants. These grants support high school chemistry teachers in their ideas to enhance classroom learning, foster student development, and reveal the wonders of chemistry. Teachers can request up to $1,500 for their ideas. Grants typically fund lab equipment and supplies, instructional materials, professional development, student-conducted field supplies, and student-led science outreach events.

5. The (Really) Great Outdoors Contest 2020, from The TurfMutt Foundation, focuses on urging kids to use their imaginations around the many uses and benefits of green space and the outdoors. Open to students in grades six to eight, last year’s contest drew over 2,700 submissions from middle school youth. Created in partnership with Scholastic, the contest encourages students to write about and/or draw a nature space their community could use. Students are also asked to include text to describe the space, discuss what elements are needed, and how their space will be used to benefit the community. Each entry can be no more than three pages.
