Aperture Education Creates Online Social and Emotional Learning Professional Development Program for Educators

EdSERT Digital provides online resources to help educators enhance their own social and emotional skills and teaching practices

Charlotte N.C. (April 20, 2021) — Aperture Education has launched EdSERT Digital, an online version of its paper-based social and emotional professional development program for educators. The EdSERT (short for Educator Social-Emotional Reflection and Training) digital program will be available to educators in July 2021. More information can be found at www.edsert.com

Aperture created the EdSERT program to support the social and emotional skills and teaching practices of educators. It provides a comprehensive set of research-based and practical resources for K-12 teachers and out-of-school time program staff to increase their knowledge about SEL, guide them to reflect on and build their existing SEL skills and practices in the classroom, and ultimately enable them to more effectively promote the SEL skills of their students.

EdSERT Digital moves those resources online to meet the needs of teachers who have shifted to remote or hybrid teaching.

“Teachers are asking for more professional development and guidance around how to best support their students’ social and emotional skills,” said Jennifer Robitaille, director of research and development at Aperture Education. “EdSERT addresses this challenge by providing a comprehensive professional development program to help educators learn and enhance their teaching practices in this area. EdSERT Digital will help us better reach and support teachers by providing this program in a streamlined, online system.”

EdSERT Digital includes:

SEL professional development focusing on eight essential social and emotional competencies aligned to the CASEL Framework: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, goal-directed behavior, personal responsibility, decision-making and optimistic thinking.

Self-reflective assessments for educators to reflect on their existing social and emotional teaching practices.

Personal development plans to guide educators in identifying growth opportunities and setting goals in areas such as managing emotions in the classroom, self-care, understanding personal biases, promoting positive relationships and classroom culture, and modeling SEL skills.

Self-directed strategies designed to help educators strengthen their social and emotional teaching practices and model them in the classroom.

EdSERT Digital can be used as a standalone professional development program for educators or as an educator-focused complement to an existing SEL curriculum for students. For schools and programs using Aperture’s DESSA SEL assessments, EdSERT Digital provides a consistent approach by focusing on promoting the same eight competencies that the DESSA measures.
