Innovate to Educate Entry

Erie City

Nina Wolfarth, Early Care Coordinator/Technlogy Coordinator

What innovative technology initiative or project are you most proud of, and how has it improved teaching and learning in your school/district?

I am proud of the way we use all of our technology but most recently we have learned about the app named Aurasma. The IT Specialist, the Physical Education teacher, and myself decided to try a small pilot project using the app. We took gross motor activity stations and brought them to life using this app and the students participation. It has made the class more engaging and fun!

What were some of the biggest challenges to your initiative, and how did you meet those challenges?

The biggest challenges were for us learning the app and then deciding what was the best project to tie it to and what was the best way to teach it to all of the others. We presented the app many times in meetings, In-services and Technology Talks after school. We used many examples and gave ideas on other ways the classrooms could use the app as well.

What are the three biggest components that need to be in place for tech innovation to succeed are:

Choose a small pilot group to start with.
Knowledge of the app and technology.
Training the staff
